As part of the EU project EUPORIAS, the Met Office, the University of Leeds, KNMI and other partners are working closely with Clinton Devon Estates (CDE) and the National Farmers Union (NFU) to develop prototype seasonal weather forecasts for UK land managers. Seasonal weather forecasts (typically for 1-3 months ahead) are currently only skilful during the wintertime, so initial work on the prototype has focused on providing winter forecasts. During winter 2015/2016, we have been using a web microsite (http://lmtool.euporias.eu) to provide 14 day site-specific forecasts for temperature and precipitation alongside three month outlooks, across South West England, working a stakeholder group of about 20 farmers.
